Students
Whether you are exploring a future in healthcare or are currently in the thick of clinical training, SeizingPsych offers a unique platform to develop the "human" important in medicine. We coordinate two distinct pathways based on your level of training to identify opportunities that are impactful and flexible enough for your schedule. Opportunities include:
Professional & Medical Students
Focus: Leadership, Clinical Narrative, and Mentorship
-
Expert Liaison: Research, vet, and invite leading psychiatric experts to join caregiver Q&A sessions.
-
Content Lead: Contribute to the translation of psychiatric research into high-impact educational materials for lay audiences including social media content and narratives of lived experience.
-
Support Associate: Help facilitate peer-led caregiver circles and focus groups, gaining early experience in the "hidden curriculum" of psychiatry: insurance, housing, and family dynamics.
Undergraduate & Post-Bacc Students
Focus: Experience, Content Creation, and SMI Literacy
-
Science Communication Assistant: Work with our team to create social media content that simplifies complex neuroscience and other relevant concepts.
-
Organizational Support: Assist in the logistics of our live events and resource management.
Caregivers
At SeizingPsych, we believe that those who live the reality of mental illness every day are the true experts. Your journey through challenges, system navigation, and resilience in difficult situations is the key to helping other families find their way.
Join our community of "home-front experts" in one of the following roles:
Share Your Story
-
Lived Experience Narrator: Help us humanize mental illness. Whether through a blog post, a short video for social media, or speaking at our events, your story provides the validation and hope that other families are searching for. SeizingPsych will help you find the medium to share your story!
-
Creative Advocate: Help others share their story through writing, art, or interviews to help the public understand the "real world" of mental illness.
Shape the Future of Support
-
Focus Group Lead or Participant: Help us build better resources and programs. Help us shape and develop small-group discussions to give feedback on new tools and programming to ensure they actually meet the needs of families like yours.
-
Organizational Support: Help us develop community events and collaborations! Assist with the logistics of our live events and resource management.
Peers
We invite you to move from being a "patient" to a "partner," helping us ensure that the future of SeizingPsych is grounded in dignity, agency, and the real-world experience of recovery. Recovery looks different for everyone and your journey helps us understand how we can best adapt to help different people!
Shape Support Structures & Share Your Story
-
Lived Experience Consultant: Participate in focus groups to help guide our available resources, peer support, social media content. Understanding what helps you, helps us!
-
Lived Experience Storyteller: Share your journey to educate the public and support others walking a similar path. You can contribute through Narratives (blog posts, interviews, and essays) or Creative Advocacy (art, poetry, and social media collaboration). Whether you want to tell your story or design a message, your voice is the key to breaking stigma.
Professionals, Clinicians & Allies
Access to professional expertise is a major barrier to families navigating mental illness, especially in the "off hours" of life. We invite you to join our network of experts to provide the high-level insight that helps families bridge the gap between the clinic and the community.

Professional Partnership Roles
-
Resource Consultant ("On-the-Line"): Join our directory of experts we can reach out to when a family is facing a complex barrier. Whether it’s a nuance in pharmacotherapy, navigating a specific insurance hurdle, or identifying crisis management strategies, your specialized knowledge helps us provide families with the right direction at the right time.
-
Expert Speaker & Panelist: Participate in our live Q&A sessions or educational webinars. These sessions allow you to share evidence-based insights on SMI directly with caregivers and peers who are looking for clarity beyond the 15-minute appointment.
-
Pro-Bono Professional Services: Contribute your expertise in areas that intersect with mental health, such as disability law, special needs trusts, social work, or non-profit management. Help us build a robust toolkit of "real-world" resources for families in crisis.
-
Organizational Support: Help us develop community events and collaborations! Assist with the logistics of our live events and resource management.
